Greek Advisory Council Report

500 men went through 2010 Rush and 260+ bids were offered.
Sig Phi will open its colony for 2011 Rush.
70 % of the seniors now live off campus.

There is a move afoot from Duke Student Government to solicit money to help needy students pay fraternity/sorority dues, called the Greek Financial Initiative. Somehow this does not seem appropriate to TDB. The Council took no action and the matter is not up to them in any event.
Gerald Wilson, long time Gamma Rho friend, told the Council that in his "51 years in the Allen Building (sic: Duke talk for the Administration) the current Duke Administration is the most favorable toward fraternities". Regrettably, Beta is no longer on campus to share in this era of good feeling.

Thanks

TDB thanks the following for their generous contributions since the last update. This money keeps TDB alive and more is welcome!

Help (New Year's Resolution)

TDB is short of the funds necessary to put up the Duke Beta pix from the Chanticleer. Usually this was a two page spread every year with a group picture and a write up. Copying costs are the problem as Duke Archives has to do this a certain way for the web site and charges a fair price. Also need the usual funds to keep things going. Send your check in any amount to The Duke Beta, 465 Sheffield Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27104. Appreicated!

Steel To Run New York City

Mayor Bloomberg has named Bob Steel # 646 to the office of Deputy Mayor of New York City. Steel has run a lot of organizations but this may be his hardest job yet. Wonder if he will get to read the Sunday funnies over the radio as Mayor La Guardia did during a newspaper strike? Assume it would be over TV now.
